Hi Anna,
My name is John from England and I wanted to thank you for
winning me a Sony Ericsson mobile phone in September last year.
There was a competition in Ace tennis magazine here where you had
to ask a player a question. I asked you what you had on your i-Pod and
as you were the first to answer you won me a phone…: ) Being the nice
guy that I am I gave it to my girlfriend/fiance….lol.
Hopefully you will be playing in Eastbourne again this year and
then I will be able to thank you in person.

Congratulations on reaching the top 10 next week. I’m sure you
will be there for some time…..and keep getting nearer the top. The
first Grand Slam title will soon follow…: )

I’ve been a big fan of yours for a couple of years now. I followed you
through some good times and some bad times. Recently it’s been pretty much
all good! :)

I love your style of play - it’s a nice contrast to many of the girls in the
Top 20. Watching the improvements in your game, especially over the last
year, has been great fun. I also admire your fighting spirit and
determination. It’s brought you some superb victories and some very close
matches like the one against Amelie in Paris.

Anyway I hope your shoulder isn’t causing too much trouble. Best of luck in
Antwerp - perhaps some of your matches will get on TV here in the UK. Love
the new website by the way. Your diary entries are a nice treat for your
fans so keep it up!

I was browsing the website to find information on Anna after seeing her match with Patty Schnyder in the Australian Open on TV recently. I was very impressed with the standard of the tennis she played to win in just two sets. Then I remembered I had seen Anna play last year, in the Hastings Direct tournament in Eastbourne, here in England and wondered if you would like to maybe use these pictures from her match against Vera Zvonereva on your website. Sadly, Anna lost this match 6-7 7-6 2-6, but gave 100% effort and hit several great winners which got the crowd on her side, me included.

I am a big fan of yours and watched your most recent match against Maria S at the AO and was wishing you another great victory in this tournament. Sorry to see you have the shoulder pain and injury. You were ever so close to beating Maria S. !!!

I have an observation to pass on that might help you with your shoulder problem. I am an assistant college coach and have seen players develop shoulder problems when they serve too upright with their torso. I watched many of your serves and you definitely frequently serve more upright than what I have seen recomended from sports science studies and the other pros. It only takes a few serves with the trunk too upright to cause pain/injury. In other words, when about to make contact with the ball during the service motion, it would be better to have your torso approximately leaning left with the arm straight up at contact. I have included a website source and a copy of the pertinent section below.

Hello, I’m a huge fan of yours ! In fact you are the player that got me back interested in watching tennis after a long time away ! I’m disabled due to a diving accident that broke my neck in 1994 so I never got the chance to play myself but I really enjoy watching the game especially when my favorite player [ you ] is playing !
I was wondering why don’t you have a forum / discussion board on your website? Do you just not want one or you don’t have any one to do it? If you want one I would enjoy setting it up and administrating it. I have 4 years exp running , updating and administrating phpbb forums. It would be a great way to allow your fans to gather and discuss your games and support you. It was great to finaly see you play here in Israel, we had a fantastic tennis experience.

I hope you’re not too upset with the crowd, unfortunetly tennis is not as popular here as in other places and some people simply didn’t know that this behavior was unacceptable.

Trust me, the Israeli crowd has a great deal of respect for you and your team, and you are a very popular player here (as long as you don’t play an Israeli player..)

Hi Anna.

I feel obligated to stress an important issue concerning your last match in the Federation Cup: the disgracing behavior of the crowd does not represent the majority of the fans who came to see the match. I know it because most of the people who sat in my area were not shouting against you or interrupting your play.

Unfortunately, few hundreds who are not used to tennis games make a lot more noise than the thousands who are trying to stay quiet and respect your need for concentration during the shots. These are the same thousands that eventually applaused and cheered for you when you crossed the court on your way out.

I hope that your impression of us is not all terrible and that you enjoyed your stay here.

It was a excellent game by you, and I must tell you from now on you’re my favorite player in the tour.
Unfortunatlly, I couldn’t reach you to tell you my thought face to face.

So I’ll be glad if you can help me to find a way to contact you or someone close (manager stuff ect…) who can send a massege.

you got wrong impression from the crowd reaction, don’t take it personal.
I was sitting over there on my wheelchair so your face from very close and your body language and I felt in love, you simply the best, better than all the rest!!!

You were just great in Telaviv. First time to see you live was a great experience. Your level of play is amazing. What a forhand, great backhand. You take the ball early, at the highest point, most of your shots are flat without too much topspin. It puts you easily in an offensive position since your opponent doesn’t have the time to get ready for the next shot. I like your serve as well. You shot it with a jump to gain some more height… just perfect. You made sure to amuse the crowd as well with your victory gestured after each point you won. Just best show in town. I hope you’re not too upset with the crowd (It’s comes from love). Not all of them are tennis player so it’s hard to stick the rules of fair encouragement. In the bottom of our hearts we are good people. You were great fan as well on the bench. You hit the metal advertisements so hard, I nearly became deaf. Can you do it more delicacy next time? The next weekend we had a davis cup vs Sweden. I was there as well. Jonas Bjorkman & Thomas Johansson vs Dudi Sele & Harel Levi. We had 2:1 but lost 3:2 at the end. Last day was great. We were close to win in both last matches even if the score doesn’t tell it. I like a lot the game of Dudi. He is very talented…and funny. You see, I didn’t came just to see your beauty or Maria’s legs. I came to see tennis as well, and got full compensation for every shekel I paid. Thank you and your friend for that. A journalist asked Jonas what he think about the Israeli’s fan. He reply: “They are just wonderful, You’re lucky to have such fans”. When he told him that the fans groan after each shot of Maria. Jonas said: “If I was in the crowd I would have do it as well”. Cool, isn’t it? I saw your lost to Maria Kirilenko in Australia (on tv). You played not bad but she had a great day. It was interesting to hear that you learned in the same class, but she said that you are not the best friends, is it?
Do you think I’ll be lucky to have a short reply from you? I never won the lottery yet. Some questions for you. I’ll like to know your daily/weekly tennis schedule, Your tournaments schedule. I like to know some gossips about players in the tour. Do you have good friends among them? Does Roman play tennis as well? Did your parents played tennis? If no, how come you started with it? It’ll be interesting to hear about the robbery in your house, I heard you made them tough life (not surprising).
I’m a great fan of you. I saw you last year crying and winning and you caught me. I like the way you’re walking as well. So, you have one fan in Israeland maybe even some more, we are not all bad people. I hope that you had some good memories from Israel (you were not lucky with the weather) anyway you gave me a great memory.
Have all the best, continue to demonstrate the level of tennis you perform. Remember, you have some fans behind you.
