Tennis is a game with millions of fans

Tennis, the word reminds of how popular a game can be, after it originally began in the 19th century. Packed stadiums, with two teams, either of singles or doubles playing against each other with strung rackets to take charge of a hollow ball, which is enveloped in felt. The ball is usually greenish –yellow and has its authenticity from all other balls which belong to different sports.

Tennis has its place in the Olympics, which signifies the importance and acceptance the game has achieved through the masses. It is played by people of all ages, sex and creed. Lawn tennis as it originated has gone a long way from its initial days to a full fledged world sport. It is played usually on a hard court of grass or asphalt and concrete, with millions of fans watching from all over the world. Tournaments like the Grand Slam, Australian Open and US Open are one of the most watched tournaments and have produced tennis stars like Pete Sampras, Roy Emerson, Steffi Graf, and Maria Sharapova. The shots played in tennis can be classified as a serve, grips, forehand backhand .The tennis ball wears out quickly during a serious game , hence rules have been laid down as to how many times a ball should be changed during a game. Since the match is supposed to be continuous, stamina is a very important factor of this game. If the game is interrupted by rains or any other factor the game is usually resumed at later point. Except for a new rule adoption, the tie breaker, the rules have not been altered since its early conception.

Tennis has indeed come a long way, now gaining a lot of popularity in the eastern countries as well, it has a world wide fan club counting in millions, who regularly follow the event and will remain a true sport for years to come.
